As announced a couple of weeks ago by Football-Austria, coach Dan Hawkins, who won three championship titles in one season last year, has joined the Austrian powerhouse Vienna Vikings as assistant offensive coordinator, helping out Max Puchstein. Vikings head coach Chris Calaycay is no stranger to Hawkins as he played for him at Willamette University in Oregon.
The Vikings open their season Monday, March 28 against the Danube Dragons.
Hawkins, former head coach of Willamette University, Boise State and the Colorado Buffalos as well as the Montreal Alouettes of the CFL, had a season unlike any other in 2015.
First, Hawkins guided Team USA to its third straight IFAF World Championship crown in July. He followed that up as offensive coordinator for Sweden’s Carlstad Crusaders by winning the IFAF Europe Champions League title and then the Swedish championship.
He has been busy in the offseason holding camps and clinics which included a month-long trip in Australia with his son Cody Hawkins. He is back in Austria after holding camps in Ireland and in Dusseldorf, Germany with Growth of a Game.
