France: Marseille Blue Stars’ QB Kaleb Scott set to face Ours de Toulouse and former teammate
In week 1 in the French D1 Elite league, Marseille Blue Stars’ quarterback Kaleb Scott tore the Montpellier Hurricanes apart with 269 yards and six touchdowns. In his week-two matchup against Ours de Toulouse Sunday, Feb. 27, he will likely cement himself as one of the top quarterbacks in the league.
“The first week was good for us but we still have work to do. It’s always nice to get a win and be able to play the players that wouldn’t typically get in during a closer game.”
Scott was on a tear with the Blue Stars back in 2020 before his season was cut short because of the COVID-19 pandemic. In four games with the Blue Stars, Scott put up 13 touchdowns and 1,109 yards. Now back in the south of France two years later, the Canadian passer seems to be on a mission to finish what he started.
Scott has been able to build a connection with homegrown talent over the past few years in Marseille. Of his six touchdowns last week, two belonged to emerging star Fayade Säid who racked up six receptions and 80 yards. But his ability to spread the ball around kept the Hurricanes guessing in that first game.
The Marsielle offense created some rumblings around the league following their week one statement win. However, this week they’ll line up against another foe in southern France, the recently promoted Toulouse Ours. The Ours defense should provide France’s hottest quarterback with a tougher test as Toulouse allowed less than 200 total yards in their 10-6 win against Grenoble.
But in Toulouse, Scott will be coming up against a familiar face in opposing quarterback and fellow Canadian Cameron Valardo. Both Canadians attended St Mary’s University (USports) in Halifax, Nova Scotia, with Scott appearing as the starter.
“I’m really excited to play against him. It’ll be a lot of fun to be able to compete against someone that I spent so much time playing with and hanging out with as well.”
Now the two former teammates will be battling it out a world away from Canadian soil. But if week one is anything to go by, it may be Scott coming out on top again.
