LIVESTREAM: Czech Republic: Women’s Championship – Rose Bowl V – Warsaw Sirens @Brno Amazons, Sunday, Nov. 10, 1p CET (7a ET)
The Czech Republic Women’s title game, Rose Bowl V, pits the reigning champion and unbeaten Brno Amazons (6-0) against Poland’s Warsaw Sirens (2-4), Sunday, November 10 at the Rugby Club Bystrc in Brno.
The Amazons are the oldest women’s American football club in the Czech Republic and waltzed through the regular season facing little resistance until the Sirens pushed them in the final game of the year. This has been the third perfect season in a row for Brno as they seek their fourth straight title.
Led by quarterback Petra Pejšková and running back and leading scorer Alžběta Nečasová, Brno has dominated the league this season although they had to come from behind to defeat the Sirens in that last game of the year. In the final win over Warsaw, Nečasová was magnificent scoring six (!) touchdowns, two on the ground and four on passes from Pejšková (3) and Kateřina Šlesingerová (1).
So for Warsaw to have a chance, they have to corral Nečasová.
The offense averaged 46.6 points a game during the season while the defense surrendered an average of 16 points a game.
Amazon’s head coach Daniel Schmied leads a varied squad which includes a Czech weightlifting champion, a soldier and a former Chicago Force player.
The Sirens struggled through the regular season but surged at the end and in the loss to Brno in the last game of the year, actually held a 24-20 halftime lead. Tight end Magdalena Lonc is considered to be the player to stop to beat Warsaw.
Quarterback Aleksandra Walczyńska threw three touchdown passes and ran another one in herself in that loss to Brno. Lonc scored three times, twice on throws from Walczyńska. In other words, this is the duo that the Amazons need to stop to win the game.
Warsaw proved they can score points during the regular season averaging just over 29 points a game, but they also gave up 37 a game.
Sirens head coach Phillip Dillon:
“Being our first year playing in a league it has been a great learning experience for the players. Its been an up and down season but in the end we have the opportunity to play for the championship. We are looking forward to the opportunity to play the Amazons again and expect it to be a great game”
