Czech Republic: Ostrava Steelers sign veteran QB Brad Jones
The Ostrava Steelers of the Czech League of American Football (CLAF) have signed veteran passer Brad Jones.
The well-traveled signal-caller is looking forward to a new challenge in the Czech Republic:
“I chose to play for the Steelers for a few reasons. I felt like I needed a change of scenery having been in Switzerland for the last couple years and thought the Czech Republic would be a great place to play having visited the country before.”
The 29-year-old Jones, 6’3″, 190 pound, native of Utica, New York spent last season as the quarterback of the Basel Gladiators in Switzerland. Jones threw for 1,905 yards and scored 20 total touchdowns, leading the league in touchdown passes. The season prior in 2019, Jones played his first season in Switzerland quarterbacking the Luzern Lions.
He spent the 2018 season leading the Warsaw Sharks of Poland’s Liga Futbolu Amerykańskiego (LFA) to the post-season. In Poland, he threw for 2,194 yards and 25 touchdowns in eight games. In the playoff-clinching 33-26 victory over the Wyszkow Rhinos, he threw for 324 yards and five touchdowns.
Jones looks to make the Steelers a contender in the Czech league:
“The Steelers have had some success in the last few years reaching the Czech bowl and I want to be a part of a great organization primed to return to the top of the league. I believe in the culture they’re building there. From my first conversation with the front office I felt like it was a great fit and can’t wait to get there and get to work!”
Prior to arriving in Poland, Jones spent the 2015-16 season studying and playing football at Durham University in Durham, England. While earning his Masters’s Degree in Education, he played quarterback and served as offensive coordinator helping the team reach the national British university semifinals. Before pursuing his master’s in the UK, Jones played at St. John Fisher College (NCAA Div. III) in the United States.
