Chris Jeffrey signs as QB for Mexico’s Toluca Osos
The Toluca Osos who play in Mexico’s Liga de Fútbol Americano Profesional (LFA), have signed Chris Jeffrey as their quarterback for the 2020 season.
The 6′, 190 lb, 27 year old from Washington, DC, spent the 2019 season with the Rostock Griffins in the GFL2 throwing for 1,812 yards and 19 touchdowns while rushing for another 661 and six touchdowns. The year before he helped the Warsaw Eagles win the Polish crown while throwing for 1.333 yard and 20 touchdowns. He started his European career in Serbia in 2017, quarterbacking the Novi Sad Dukes to the Serbian championship game, throwing for 892 yards and 12 touchdowns in six games.
The Osos finished their first season in the LFA with a 2-6 record and out of the playoffs. The season in Mexico is relatively short. The eight team LFA opens the season in late February and the championship game is held in the first week of May.
Jeffrey was asked how he found his way to Mexico.
“It all started with a friend from my hometown of Washington DC, JD Crandall, who played for Osos last season. He told me the team was looking for a QB and I had already been paying attention to the LFA over the course of the season and had seen how competitive and structured the league was. I knew that it would be a place I would want to play given the opportunity. He got me in contact with someone in the organization and towards the end of the season in Germany, I was sending film every week. One of the coaches then reached out to me and now I am a Toluca Osos (bear).”
