Following their opening day victory against the Guangzhou Southern Tigers in the American Football League of China, the Hong Kong Cobras sprang into life in their second weekend of action against their cross-town rivals, the Hong Kong Combat Orcas, in a dominant display that saw five different scorers, as they ran away with a 57-0 win.
Scores came from both sides of the ball, with defensive touchdowns from Carlos Da Silva (interception TD) and Terry Sibanda (fumble recovery TD) and offensive touchdowns on the ground via Henri Yim (2 TDs) and a pair of receiving scores from Dandy Dealino and 2 more from the Player of the Game – Thomas Man – who also picked up another interception score on defense and 1 sack.
“I’m very pleased with the performance of my entire team tonight. Our execution was on par, and I was very happy to see second and third string get involved. I look forward to continuing to improve.” said Head Coach, David Oberlander.
In describing the performance on offense, captain Markus Hartwig said
“It was a good game for us. We were a little short handed with injuries on the Oline, but we had guys that stepped up and played well. The defense played lights out as usual and turned in a dominant performance. Most importantly we did not have any new serious injuries.”
The team now has to prepare for the mainland opponents, Guangzhou Apaches, who will travel to the Cobras for game 3 of the season on the 12th September.
