There were seven games featured on AFI tv and AFI this past weekend from six different countries and the games were filled with plenty of surprises and tons of action.
The Central European Football League showdown between the Swarco Raiders and Dacia Vienna Vikings was the highlight of the weekend but other games came close to matching it in terms of excitement. The Austrian Football League, Hungarian Football League, Danish National League, Serbian league and Polish Football League all featured close games.
The Bialystok Lowlanders won their third Polish Football League game of the season by downing the Silesia Rebels Katowice 28-20 in a downpour in Bialystok. Running back Krzysztof Czaplejewicz scored two touchdowns to pace the Lowlanders.
In Serbia, the Kragujevac Wild Boars survived a second half comeback by the visiting Belgrade Blue Dragons to gain a 38-34 victory. Kragujevac had taken a 26-7 halftime lead only to watch as the Blue Dragons roared back. Dragons WR Carson Oulette looked like he had scored the winning TD late in the game only to have the line judge rule him out of bounds.
In a defensive battle in the CEFL, fittingly it was the Swarco Raiders defense who broke open a 13-13 tie, forcing an end zone fumble by Vikings QB Eystin Salum which Raiders LB Julian Perfler pounced on to make it 20-13.
The Copenhagen Towers took a 16-0 halftime lead against the Triangle Razorbacks in Danish Nationaligaen play, watched as the Razorbacks closed the gap to 16-13 in the third quarter, and then scored 28 unanswered points to come away with a dominant 44-13 victory.
In the Hungarian Football League, the Gyor Sharks were simply too much for the hometown Budapest Cowbells, as they exploded for 35-0 halftime lead and then cruised to a 41-14 win.
In a game that on paper should have been lopsided, between the unbeaten Tychy Falcons and winless Warsaw Mets, it was the opposite as the two teams put on a thrilling display of football with the Falcons needing a last second touchdown to pull out the win and stay unbeaten. Falcons QB Gabriel Losada tossed a touchdown pass to the deep corner of the end zone with seconds remaining after Mets quarterback David Ash had given his team the lead just before with a touchdown pass to Jan Omelanczuk.
The Prague Black Panthers earned their first win of the year in beating a stubborn Modling Rangers squad 27-20 in Austrian Football League action. The loss left the Rangers winless with three games left in the regular season.
