Check out AFI’s recap of all the games from the most action packed weekend of football this year

In what was by far the most action packed weekend of the year, there were a total of 16 games on AFI.tv plus a few other games and American football in Europe kicks into full gear.

Sweden’s Superserien kicked off a shortened season while the German Football League and Italy’s Division 1 and games were played in Finland’s Maple League, the Danish National League, Polish Football League and Hungarian Football League.

The Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns broke open a 14-14 tie at halftime against the Calanda Broncos in Central European Football League semifinal action, scoring two third quarter touchdowns and holding on for a 35-21 win in Chur, Switzerland.

The Ravensburg Razorbacks took a late 27-20 lead against the Munich Cowboys in Ravensburg, Germany and were saved on a last second pass knockdown on a two-point conversion attempt to come away with a 27-26 victory.

The Porvoo Butchers opened the Finnish Maple League with their first win since 2019 in downing the 2020 finalists, the Helsinki Wolverines 14-6 in from of a cheering home crowd in Porvoo.

The Stockholm Mean Machines fell behind 14-12 to the Carlstad Crusaders at half time and came out in the third quarter fired up, scoring two touchdowns to go up 26-14 before Carlstad scored a late touchdown to close the gap to 26-22. Stockholm then held on for the win in the opening day of the Swedish Superserien.

In Italy, the Parma Panthers remained unbeaten after defeating arch rivals the Milano Seamen 30-27 this past weekend in Italy’s Division 1.

In German Football League action, the Saarland Hurricanes showed no mercy in pounding the hapless Frankfurt Universe 83-0, handing the former GFL South powerhouse their second straight lopsided loss.

The Potsdam Royals earned their second straight dominant win of the GFL season in whipping the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes 52-6 and moving into first place in the North division.

The Marburg Mercenaries won their first game of the young GFL South season in beating the Stuttgart Scorpions 38-29. The Mercenaries had taken a 28-14 halftime lead only to watch as Stuttgart narrowed the lead to 28-23 late in the third quarter. Marburg then scored 10 straight points to secure the win.

The Dresden Monarchs jumped out to a 20-3 lead at halftime against the Cologne Crocodiles and then held on for a 54-34 win to avenge a 48-41 loss to the Crocodiles the week before.

The Braunschweig New Yorker Lions outmuscled the Berlin Rebels for most of the game in blanking the Rebels 31-0 as both teams opened their German Football League season.

The Firenze Guelfi raced out to a 20-2 lead at halftime against the Ancona Dolphins and then cruised to a 33-20 win in Ancona. With the win, the Guelfi have secured a playoff spot in Italy’s Division 1.

The Örebro Black Knights simply overwhelmed the Uppsala 86ers in the season opener for both teams in Sweden’s Superserien blanking the undermanned 86ers 49-0.

The Lazio Ducks came closer to reaching the playoffs in Italy’s Division 1 in downing the last place Milano Rhinos 33-20 after taking a 26-2 lead late in the second quarter.

The AaB 89ers dominated the Triangle Razorbacks for the first three quarters in the Danish National League, taking a 28-0 lead, before the Razorbacks scored two late touchdowns to close the gap to 28-14. The 89ers then scored a fourth quarter touchdown to put the game away, 35-14.

In the Polish Football League, the Bialystok Lowlanders won their fourth of fifth games in beating the Krakow Kings 24-17 to secure third place in the standings with one game left in the season.

The Bydgoszcz Archers dominated the Silesia Rebels Katowice from the opening whistle, going on to shut out the home team Rebels 34-0, to finish the regular season with an unbeaten 6-0 record.

In Hungary, the Fehervar Enthroners remained undefeated, beating the Gyor Sharks 28-7.
