The List Of All The 2016 European Champions And How They Won

The final European championships for 2016 were decided on the weekend with the German Bowl, Mermaid Bowl (Denmark) and Ukrainian championships all finishing up .

Let’s take a look back at the 25 champions from each country. Click on the links for a recap of each championship game.

Austria

Swarco Raiders defended their title in Austria in 2016 with 51-7 thumping of the Graz Giants. The Raiders finished #2 in Europe following a superb season.

Belgium

The Ostend Pirates shocked Belgium by beating the Brussels Black Angels and capturing the Belgian title for the first time ever.

Czech Republic

The Prague Black Panthers won the title in the Czech Republic but not without some controversy. Their opponents in the final, the Prague Lions, felt they were robbed of victory on the last play of the game. Nevertheless, the Black Panthers won their 15th Czech title.

The Triangle Razorbacks won their seventh Danish title since 2006 beating the Copenhagen Towers 22-18.

Finland

The Helsinki Roosters won their fifth straight Finnish championship in beating the Seinäjoki Crocodiles 10-0.

France

The St. Ouen Cougars defended their French championship title in downing the Nice Dauphins 28-17.

Germany

The Braunschweig New Yorker Lions captured their fourth consecutive German title in beating the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns 31-20.

Great Britain

The London Warriors won their fourth British title in a row in beating the London Blitz 36-15.

Hungary

The Miskolc Steelers defeated the Budapest Cowbells 19-16 to win the Hungarian championship. The Steelers scored on the final play of the game as Troy Rice returned a kickoff 95 yards following the Cowbells go-ahead touchdown.

Holland

The Amsterdam Crusaders dominated the Dutch league in 2016 and dominated in the final too beating the 010 Trojans from Rotterdam 40-6 to capture their 18th Dutch title.

Ireland

The Dublin Rebels won their 8th Irish championship beating the defending champion Belfast Trojans 12-7 on a last second touchdown.

Israel

The Judean Rebels completed a successful title defense of the Israeli title, overcoming a slow start to defeat the Tel Aviv ‘Hotel Gilgal’ Pioneers 32-14 in front of almost a thousand fans in Petah Tikva.

Italy

The Milano Rhinos ran the table in Italy in 2016 going undefeated and winning the Italian title for the first time in 26 years overwhelming the Bolzano Giants 44-18 in the final.

Norway

The Oslo Vikings returned to the top of the Norwegian league beating the Eidsvoll 1814s 14-7 in a thriller to win the Norwegian title for the first time since 2012 and 10th time in their history.

Poland

The Wroclaw Panthers finally won the Polish title after two straight losses in the championship game to the Gdynia Seahawks, by downing the Seahawks 56-13.

Portugal

The Lisboa Devils won their first Portuguese championship in edging the Algarve Sharks 28-26.

Romania

The Bucharest Rebels exploded for 34 second half points en route to overwhelming the Cluj Crusaders 46-18 in Robowl VII to win their third consecutive Romanian championship title.

Russia

The Moscow Patriots won the Russian title for the second time in three years beating the Moscow Spartans in a thriller 12-7.

Serbia

The Kragujevac Wild Boars capped a remarkable turnaround season by defeating arch rivals SBB Vukovi Belgrade 53-29 to capture the Serbian championship for the first time since 2010 and the sixth time overall

Slovakia

The Trnava Bulldogs won the 2016 Slovakian title be trouncing the Zilina Warriors 63-7

Spain

The Badalona Dracs capped a perfect season in Spain defeating arch rivals the Valencia Firebats 41-14. 

Sweden

The Carlstad Crusaders downed a scrappy Uppsala 86ers team to win the Swedish championship game for the seventh consecutive season and cement their legacy as the one of the best teams in the history of Swedish American football.

Switzerland

The Bern Grizzlies rallied from a two touchdown deficit to down the defending champion Calanda Broncos 42-35 and win Swiss Bowl XXXI in Basel, Switzerland with a crowd of 1,000 people looking on. With the win, Bern claimed the Swiss title for the first time since 2007 and the fifth time in their history.

Turkey

The Koc Rams staged a late-game rally to defeat the Bogazici Sultans 21-14 to win the Turkish championship for the first time in their history and remain undefeated so far in 2016.

Ukraine

The Minsk Zubrs from Belarus have won the 2016 Ukrainian League of American Football championship by defeating the Kiev Bandits 24-14.
