Cameroon American Football Association now officially recognized
The Cameroon American Football Association (Association Camerounaise De Football Americain) has now been officially recognized by the Cameroon government.
In a vote in late December the government officially accepted the CAFA with Mr. Awasum Jr. as the newly elected president.
Cameroon is a West African nation, located just below Nigeria on the coast with a population of 24 million. The country now joins the other nations in Africa with organized American football, Egypt, Morocco, Ivory Coast, Tunisia, Kenya and Nigeria.
Awasum will now oversee the governance and development policy of the game of American football in Cameroon nationally & internationally. According to him, from now on American football in Cameroon will speak with one voice.
Despite not having its own league, Cameroon is well represented in the NFL with players such as Stephane Nembot (Baltimore Ravens), Aries Kouadjio (Ravens), Cysrus Kouadjio (Detroit Lions), Ndamukong Suh (Miami Dolphins), Adrian Awasom,(SuperBowl 42 Champion NYG) as well as Roman Oben (NFL) and Moise Fokou (Free Agent). Former French Federation of American Football MVP, Stephen Yepmo is also from Cameroon.
The federation has scheduled a camp in March of this year.
