Switzerland: Calanda Broncos overwhelm St. Gallen Bears in home opener

The Calanda Broncos (2-0) solidified their strong start to the Swiss American Football League (NLA) season with a decisive 49-6 win over last year’s semifinal rivals, the St. Gallen Bears (0-1), in their home opener on Saturday.

Calanda exploded out of the gate jumping out to a 21-0 first quarter lead and and did not let up.

Broncos quarterback Robin Sennrich kicked things off with a dynamic 43-yard rushing touchdown. He then threw two scoring passes – a 37-yard touchdown strike to Adrian Sünderhauf and another to Celeste Conceprio – establishing a commanding 21-0 advantage.

The offensive fireworks persisted in the second quarter at their temporary Obere Au home venue. Sünderhauf showcased his pass catching prowess by hauling in a spectacular 65-yard touchdown reception, marking his third score of the season, while Noah Bachofen complemented the aerial attack with a powerful rushing touchdown that stretched the halftime margin to 35-0.

The Broncos maintained their dominance in the second half relying on their ground game as Amel Adjovi powered in a rushing score. Sennrich capped his four-touchdown performance with a 26-yard connection to Selome Adzayi, ballooning the lead to 49-0. Though St. Gallen averted a shutout with a 66-yard touchdown as time expired, the Broncos’ offensive display across all quarters secured an emphatic victory.
