BC Lions release Germany’s John Levi Kruse

The BC Lions have announced that German tight end John Levi Kruse has been released following rookie camp.

The 6’4″, 242 pound, 25-year-old Kruse from Hamburg, Germany, was selected by the Lions in the 2022 Global Draft but chose to play another season with the Hamburg Sea Devils in the European League of Football.

He had posted impressive numbers at the 2022 CFL Global Combine, running a 4.88 seconds 40-yard dash and logging in 18 reps on the bench press. Kruse also recorded a 7.06 time on the 3-cone drill and 4.42 seconds on the shuttle run.

In this first round of roster cuts, teams have reduced their rosters to 85 players, excluding non-counters.

Training camps fully open across the CFL on Sunday, May 14.

Preseason action gets underway on Monday, May 22, when the Edmonton Elks visit the Calgary Stampeders at 4 p.m. ET (2 p.m. MT).
