Austria’s AFL releases 2022 schedule, kicks off March 27
This year the Austrian Football League will consist of 10 teams kicking off play on March 27.
The 10-game regular season will be followed by two semifinals on July 16 and 17 followed by Austrian Bowl XXXVII on July 30.
The league will be made up of the defending champion Swarco Raiders Tirol, the Dacia Vikings, the SsangYong Danube Dragons, the Projekt Spielberg Graz Giants, the Rangers Mödling, and the Prague Black Panthers. The six teams from last year will be joined by four promoted teams the division two champion Salzburg Ducks, the Atrium Steelsharks Traun, the Telfs Patriots, and the Znomjo Knights.
The Raiders and Vikings will, however, be using two separate rosters and coaching staffs as one of their two senior teams will play in the European League of Football, while the other will continue to compete at home in the AFL.
With most of their returning players opting to play in the ELF expect the Vikings and Raiders to let their young talent take over in the Austrian Football League this summer. With traditional powerhouses, the Raiders Tirol and Vienna Vikings top talent heading to the European League of Football, the Austrian Bowl title appears to be as wide open as many fans can remember.
