The Traun Steelsharks have brought back a familiar face to lead their offense this season re-signing quarterback John Uribe.
Steelsharks players and coaches will look to Uribe again as the team aims to compete in the Austrian Football League this season.
The 6′ 200-pound quarterback unsurprisingly returns for his fourth season in Traun. During his career with the Steelsharks, Uribe has amassed 6,423 yards and 66 touchdown passes. Most recently the 31-year old threw for 1,593 yards and 23 touchdowns on a 79% completion percentage during the 2021 season.
Prior to playing Austria, the Santa Barbara, California native suited up for his hometown community college earning the conference MVP award for Santa Barbara City College. Following his community college career Uribe played one season for Lindenwood University (NCAA D2) throwing for 2,200 yards and 19 touchdowns.
After leaving Lindenwood, Uribe originally signed to play Indoor football before eventually finding his way to Serbia quarterbacking the SBB Vukovi Belgrade to a SAAF championship. The following season, he headed to Hamburg throwing for 2,287 yards and 21 touchdowns as a member of the Huskies.
Urbine and the Steelsharks will be back in Austria’s highest league this season as the AFL has expanded to 10 teams for the 2022 season. This season, the seasoned quarterback is joined by import defensive end Mike Taylor and defensive back Teddie Martinez.
