Austria: Final offensive stats leaders with playoffs looming
The Austrian Football League wound up the 2022 regular season with a couple of surprises on the stats leaderboard for offense.
Interestingly, the second-place team in the AFL, the Prague Black Panthers, does not have a single player among the Top 5 in each offensive category, Passing, Rushing and Receiving. The only other team without representation is the other Czech team, the Znojmo Knights. The Telfs Patriots led the way with three players among the 15 while the Traun Steelsharks, Graz Giants, Swarco Raiders, Dacia Vienna Vikings and Salzburg Ducks all had two apiece. The league-leading Danube Dragons had one player on the list as did the Mödling Rangers.
Passing
Traun Steelsharks QB John Uribe led the league in passing yardage with 2,834 while also tossing 24 TD passes. Aaron Ellis of the Telfs Patriots finished 2nd with his 2,635 yards and league-leading (tied) 31 TD passes. Right behind him in 3rd was Danube Dragons Chad Jeffries with 2,522 yards and also 31 TDs while in 4th was Tyrone Williams of the Graz Giants with 2,470 yards and 29 TDs. Swarco Raiders QB Isaiah Weed finished in 5th with 2,072 yards and 25 TDs.
Rushing
Dacia Vienna Vikings RB Devontae Jordan was by far the leading rusher in the AFL with 1,678 yards and a whopping 23 TDs. Salzburg Ducks QB Kris Denton wound up 2nd with 714 yards while Mödling Rangers QB Benjamin Bräuer was 3rd with 555. Behind him in 4th was Isaiah Weed of the Raiders and in 5th Ducks RB Noel Bernsteiner.
Receiving
Traun Steelsharks WR Michael Schachermayr led all receivers with 1,363 yards and 9 TDS with Ravon Johnson of the Patriots not far behind in 2nd with 1,167 yards and a league-best 12 TDs. Fabian Eder of the Dacia Vienna Vikings came 3rd with 710 yards while Patriots WR Theodor Landström was 4th with 700. Fifth spot went to Julian Kapellari of the Graz Giants. He had 673 yards on 36 catches.
