“I was trying to go out and do whatever I needed to do” Deandre Hopkins said after the Arizona Cardinals 42-34 victory over the New Orleans Saints this past week.
Hopkins was returning after a six-game suspension for violation of NFL’s performance enhancing substances rule.
With another key Arizona receiver, Marquise Brown, set to be sidelined for a month, Hopkins made his comeback at a perfect time. Quarterback Kyler Murray reminded us why he and Hopkins form one of the most dynamic duos in the league. Murray targeted Murray 14 times for 10 receptions and 103 yards. Hopkins was efficient to say the least and the chemistry between him and Murray was as fluid as ever. Hopkins not only gives Murray a standout target, but his presence alone keeps defenses honest.
Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury was happy with Hopkins’ return to the lineup:
“It’s good to have him back. I think once he really gets in shape, gets back into running routes and is comfortable in the offense he can really do some things.”
The Cardinals currently sit last in the NFC West. They were 11-6 last season, losing out to eventual champions, the LA Rams in the Wild Card round. The return of Hopkins will provide a much-needed boost and make them potential contenders in the NFC.
