American Football Federation of India Set to Expand the Game in the Sub-Continent
First-ever Indian Team to be selected from National championships

The American Football Federation of India (AFFI) that serves as a governing body for American football in India is all set to expand the game across the country. With the growing popularity of contact sports in India, AFFI is expecting great future for American Football in India.
With the tremendous success sports like kabaddi, UFC and WWE witnessed in India; the AFFI is working spiritedly to deepen the understanding and practice of American Football in the country.
AFFI is an associate member of the International Federation for American Football (IFAF), which is the development partner of the hugely popular NFL in the United States. AFFI is also a member of the IFAF Asia, which is the regional body.
Currently, American Football is one of the fastest growing sports in the world. Presently played across 71 nations and the sport is recognized by IOC and likely to get official entry into the Olympics soon.
Football enthusiast, investor in the sport and a medical practitioner, Dr. Venkatesh Movva is the Chairman of the AFFI Development Committee in India, a body that is responsible for promotion of the sport. Dr. Venkatesh Movva is also the owner of Hyderabad Skykings of the Elite Football League of India (EFLI).
Commenting on his role and future of the sport in India, Dr. Movva said;
“We intend to solidify this sport to the grassroots level in India; The sport Development Committee is taking the sport to the Schools and Universities level and encourage youngsters to take up the sport, promising great careers.”
He further added;
“While we have a Club set-up in Hyderabad where the game is currently practiced and played; the Telangana State Government has extended full cooperation to set-up a first dedicated American Football Academy in the city. More details on this proposed Academy will be declared soon.”
Similar academies will be set up in multiple cities soon.
The American Football Federation of India will also conduct National Flag football championships in Under-15, Under-19 and Full tackle championships in Senior categories. Regular tackle and flag football events will be conducted across various cities in India in order to promote the sport in a big way starting in September.
In addition to organizing grass root level clinics to promote the sport, a ‘beach football’ event is being conceived to make it more attractive for the younger generation.
The first ever Indian national team will be selected from the domestic national championships to represent at Asian and International competitions.
