AFVD: Germany Announces 2023 75-Man National Team Roster
On Saturday, March 25th, 2023, 127 players took part in the selection camp of the German men’s national team in Frankfurt.
This was also the first opportunity for the new coaching crew around head coach Shuan Fatah to introduce themselves to the players and get to know them. This measure was very important for Fatah:
“For me it was a matter close to my heart to give the new players who were not present at the last national team measures a chance to present themselves. You can clearly see that the national team has the priority it deserves at the association and I’m happy to be able to build something here in the long term so that I can take part in major international tournaments again.”
Sports director Claus Holtz explains the selection process:
“Right after the camp on Saturday evening and throughout Sunday, the coaches analyzed and discussed to put together the squad. They now had to choose the best 100 or 75 players from the pool of 103 players from the last screening camps and the current participants. It was important to us that the best German players play for Germany, regardless of which country and league they play in.”
There is now a current squad with 100 players, of which 75 players form the active squad and 25 other players belong to the extended squad. These 25 players have to be ready and able to step in at all times if there are any changes in the 75 squad. Fatah made the squads clear by the German national colors, the extended 100 squad is Team Black, the active 75 squad is Team Red and the final 45 squad will then be Team Gold.
For the 75 selected players, the next camp in Essen with the Assindia Cardinals will continue on the Easter weekend. More camps will follow before the first international match. On October 28, 2023, the German national team will play the winner of the qualifier between Israel and Spain in an international match in Frankfurt, PSD Bank Arena.
