The recently promoted Telfs Patriots of the Austrian Football League have signed their new starting quarterback after agreeing to terms with Aaron Ellis.
The former Stuttgart Surge (ELF) passer is thrilled to be heading to Austria to compete in the AFL.
“Excited to play the 2022 spring season in the Austrian league! Thankful to coach Nick and the Telf Patriots for the opportunity.”
The 6’3″, 215-pound passer had a busy 2021 season playing for the Søllerød Gold Diggers in Denmark’s National League for two games before joining the Stuttgart Surge of the European League of Football. In seven games with the Surge, Ellis threw for 1,173 yards, nine touchdowns, and seven interceptions stepping in for dismissed quarterback Jacob Wright. Following the season in Stuttgart, Ellis stayed on the move, joining ELF stars Joc Crawford and Alpha Jalloh in Romania, as he and the Bucharest Rebels recently finished out a perfect season with the Ro Bowl championship.
The 25-year-old Ellis, a native of Valparaiso, Indiana, had signed to play for the Ostrava Steelers in the Czech Republic in 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic prevented it. He spent the 2019 season with the Frederikssund Oaks in Denmark. Although the team was forced to withdraw from the Danish National League after five games that year due to a lack of players, Ellis threw for 1,300 yards and 12 touchdowns (four interceptions) while rushing for another 487 yards.
In college, Ellis played for the University of Saint Francis Fighting Saints (NAIA) in Joliet, Illinois where over two seasons he completed 153 of 283 passes for 2,380 yards and 27 touchdowns.
