The past weekend saw plenty of football throughout Europe with seven games on AFI tv.
The Austrian Football League, Polish Football League and Italy’s Division 1 were all in action.
In what was billed as the Game of the Week, arch rivals the Dacia Vienna Vikings and Swarco Raiders squared off in the Austrian Football League and the game delivered on the hype. The see-saw battle saw the Vikings score an overtime touchdown to defeat Swarco 31-24. The win gives the Vikings a 3-0 record while Swarco evens their record at 1-1.
In Italy’s Division 1, the Milano Seamen reasserted their dominance in beating the Bologna Warriors 41-17. With the win, the Seamen improve their record to 2-1 and rise to second in the standings. Bologna drops to 1-2.
The Ancona Dolphins continue to look impressive in Italy’s top league after edging the Milano Rhinos 29-26 to remain unbeaten with a 2-0 record. Ancona is now second in the Italian standings.
The SsangYong Danube Dragons improved their record to 2-1 in the Austrian Football League in downing the Prague Black Panthers 21-14. This was the first game of the year for Prague who have to play all their games on the road due to COVID-19 restrictions in the Czech Republic.
The Bydgoszcz Archers opened their season in the Polish Football League by thrashing the Warsaw Eagles 42-7. Bydgoszcz took control early, jumping out to a 21-0 second quarter lead before the Eagles scored just before the half. The third quarter was all Archers as the scored three straight touchdowns to put the game away.
The Silesia Rebels Katowcie jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the Polish Football League action on the weekend against the Warsaw Mets only to watch the David Ash-led Mets mount a comeback and come oh so close to finishing it. The Rebels prevailed to earn their first win of the season and improve their record to 1-1.
The Parma Panthers looked to be in control against the Firenze Guelfi but two late touchdowns including one on a 90 yard kickoff return had the game tied at 34-34 forcing overtime. Parma WR Simone Alinovi scored the only touchdown in overtime and Parma remains undefeated in Italy with a 3-0 record.
After two straight losses in the Austrian Football League, the Projekt Spielberg Graz Giants finally earned their first win of the season while handing the Mödling Rangers their second loss of the season, blanking them 31-0.
