The past weekend saw a full slate of games throughout Europe on AFI tv as the leagues in Austria, Italy and Poland were underway.
The Austrian Football League, Polish Football League and Italy’s Division 1 all featured high scoring games filled with plenty of excitement.
Austria
The Swarco Raiders jumped out to a 21-0 lead and then cruised to a comfortable 35-14 win over the last place Mödling Rangers in Austrian Football League action. The win improves the Raiders’ record to 3-1 and drops Mödling to 0-3. Swarco quarterback Sean Shelton threw for 241 yards and now leads the league in passing yardage with 1,111.
The Dacia Vienna Vikings used a bruising ground game to defeat the Prague Black Panthers 27-9 in Vienna, Austria this past weekend. The Vikings racked up 245 yards rushing while allowing Prague just 225 yards in total offense. Vienna remains undefeated with a 4-0 record.
The Projekt Spielberg Graz Giants have now won two consecutive games after upsetting the SsangYong Danube Dragons 40-14 this past weekend in Austrian Football League action. The win avenged a 35-16 loss to the Dragons in the season’s opening game and pushed the Giants up into third place in the standings.
Italy
In Italy, the Parma Panthers scored three first quarter touchdowns against the visiting Ancona Dolphins and then held them in check the rest of the way for a convincing 33-14 win. With the victory, Parma remains unbeaten at 4-0 and sits atop the Italian standings.
The Milano Seamen zoomed out to a 24-6 second quarter lead before the Milano Rhinos began to charge back behind the performance of wide receiver Jason Sharsh who scored all four of his team’s touchdowns. It was not enough though as the Seamen’s relentless attack earned them win #4 to improve to 4-1.
After dropping their two first games in a row, the Lazio Ducks have now won two straight high scoring games with a 43-39 victory over the 1-3 Firenze Guelfi. The Lazio offense has truly come alive scoring a total of 106 points in their last two games, both victories.
Poland
Despite a valiant effort by the winless Warsaw Eagles (0-3), the heavily favored Bialystok Lowlanders still prevailed Saturday night, beating Warsaw 19-7. The Eagles had scored a late touchdown to close the gap to 12-7 in the fourth quarter before Bialystok found the end zone for the game’s final touchdown with minutes to go to seal the win.
The Tychy Falcons outscored the Krakow Kings 21-8 in the final two quarters of their game this past weekend in the Polish Football League to pull away and earn a decisive 41-27 win. The Kings had narrowed the lead to 20-19 at the half and showed signs of an upset. With the win, Tychy improves to 2-0 while the Kings fall to 1-2 in the standings.
