Although many leagues have wound up their seasons, this past weekend was still busy in Europe and AFI recaps all the scores
The Czech League of American Football, German Football League, Finnish Maple League, and European League of Football were all in action with key matchups in the ELF and Maple League.
Czech League of American Football
The 3-0 Prague Lions remain undefeated in the Czech league with a 46-7 manhandling of the Prerov Mammoths who fall to 0-2 with the loss. Prague quarterback Shazzon Mumphrey rushed for three touchdowns in the win.
The Ostrava Steelers (1-2) won their first game of the 2021 season with a sound 55-25 trouncing of the winless Brno Alligators.
European League of Football
The Hamburg Sea Devils (5-0) were pushed hard by the Wroclaw Panthers (3-2) and found themselves trailing entering the final quarter. But two field goals, the second with just 41 seconds left, sealed the victory leaving Hamburg as the only undefeated team in the ELF as the second half of the season looms.
The Cologne Centurions (3-2) took a 33-15 halftime lead against the Stuttgart Surge (2-3) and then held on the second half to come away with a 39-23 win. The victory leaves Cologne in sole possession of second place in the ELF South.
The Barcelona Dragons (1-4) celebrated their first win in the ELF after trouncing the visiting Berlin Thunder (1-4) 48-16. Barcelona, paced by three touchdowns from WR Jean Constant, scored 27 unanswered points in the second half to pull away for the win.
Finland’s Maple League
The defending champion Kuopio Steelers (5-0) won their fifth straight game without a loss in beating the Seinäjoki Crocodiles (2-3) 31-13 to remain in first place in the Maple League. The Steelers fell behind 7-0 early but then took control of the game in the second quarter and never let up.
The Helsinki Wolverines (2-4) captured their second win of the 2021 season in Finland, edging the United Newland Crusaders 14-6. The Wolverines’ new QB Jordan Williams scored one touchdown while RB El Ouacef rushed for 111 yards and scored the other touchdown.
The Porvoo Butchers (3-2) won their third game of the season after suffering two consecutive losses, beating the Wasa Royals (1-4) 49-27. Butchers’ QB Jabari Harris threw five touchdown passes while RB Sean McAllen rushed for 82 yards and one TD while catching 8 passes for 158 yards and another TD.
German Football League
The 4-0 Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns did not have an easy time of it in beating the 3-3 Munich Cowboys 20-7 in the only game played in the GFL. The Cowboys kept the high scoring (51 pts/game) Schwabisch Hall offense in check for much of the game but only managed to score one touchdown late in the contest after trailing 20-0.
