AFI’s Final Europe Top 20 of 2015!
We know, we know. We have waited more than a month since our last Top 20. Not much was changing and you will notice that not much has changed now as we present this, our Final Top 20 of 2015 although there is one surprise new entry.
The #1 Braunschweig New Yorker Lions finished the German Football League winning the German Bowl beating the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns in the process and remain the number one team in Europe. They have been consistent throughout the year even with a switch in quarterbacks. They have won two titles against, ironically, the very same Unicorns.
Austria’s Swarco Raiders stay at #2 after an outstanding season.
The Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns remain #3 while the Dresden Monarchs who the Unicorns beat in the German semi-finals are still a solid #4. The St. Ouen Cougars from France, who finished their season in June, stay at #5.
The Allgäu Comets will keep their #6 spot after reaching the German semi-finals for the first time in their history. Sweden’s Carlstad Crusaders still claim the #7 spot after their dominating Swedish championship run demolishing the Orebro Black Knights 42-17 in the process.
The Kiel Baltic Hurricanes finished the season in Germany by making it to the quarterfinals and so stay at #8.
The Stuttgart Scorpions finish as Europe’s #9 team after making it to the quarterfinals in Germany.
Austrian runner’s up the Vienna Vikings come in a #10 and Czech champions, the Prague Black Panthers are #11.
Sweden’s Örebro Black Knights are on the list at #12. They upset the Tyreso Royal Crowns in the Swedish semi-finals. Although they lost in the final to the Crusaders they deserve to be on this list.
Swiss champions the Calanda Broncos remain at #13.
The Tyresö Royal Crowns from Sweden finish the year in the #14 spot.
The Serbian champions, the Novi Sad Dukes, keep their #15 spot while Vukovi Belgrade finishes at #17. The Milano Seamen, the Italian champions, are at #16. Poland’s Gdynia Seahawks come in at #18 while Finland’s champions, the Helsinki Roosters move up to #19. The new entry on this list is the Frankfurt Galaxy who pulled out an exciting 34-31 win over the British champion London Warriors. Although the Galaxy are a GFL 2 team in Germany, they pulled out an excellent win against a tough Warriors squad.
Falling out of the Top 20 are the London Warriors. Other teams that are knocking on the door are Thonon Black Panthers and the London Blitz. Also add to that list Denmark’s new champions the Triangle Razorbacks as well as the Wroclaw Panthers from Poland.
