We are into Week 6 of AFI’s Europe Top 20 where we present the weekly ranking of the Top 20 best American football teams in Europe in 2015. Let’s take a look at the changes.
The biggest change was with the previously unranked Saarland Hurricanes have made a huge jump as they entered the Top 20 at #15, after topping the Stuttgart Scorpions who they beat in a come from behind 20-19 win in Stuttgart. The Hurricanes scored 14 unanswered fourth quarter points for the victory.
The Braunschweig New Yorker Lions are still at #1 spot on our list although they were idle. They are hitting their stride at the right time. Our #2 team, the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes were impressive in their 49-28 win over the Allgau Comets in the EFL final. Kiel’s quarterback Blake Bolles leads the German league in passing yardage while running back Tyler Davis scored four touchdowns in the EFL victory. The Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns were idle but stay at #3.
The #4 Swarco Raiders were idle in preparation for this weekend’s Austrian playoffs where they will face the Prague Black Panthers.
Sweden’s Carlstad Crusaders remain at #5 as they enter the July break in Sweden. They have not lost a game in Sweden or in the IFAF Europe Champions League.
The Saint Ouen l’Aumône Cougars (#6) of France won the French championship in convincing fashion knocking off the defending champion #9 Thonon-les-bains Black Panthers 28-7.
The Vienna Vikings (#7) are getting set to defend their Austrian crown as the Austrian semifinals take place this weekend. The Vikings will take on the Danube Dragons.
The Tyreso Royal Crowns #10 in Sweden were also idle.
The London Warriors #11, continue their dominance in Great Britain demolishing the London Olympians 64-6. The London Blitz, #16, embarrassed the South Wales Warriors 59-6.
Germany’s Allgau Comets lost 49-28 to the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes in the EFL final dropping them from #13 to #18.
The Prague Black Panthers (#15) have a busy weekend coming up as they face the Swarco Raiders in the Austrian semifinals on Saturday and then take on the Trnava Bulldogs in the Czech league semifinals on Sunday. So far the Black Panthers have played a total of 16 games in 2015.
The Saarland Hurricanes took a leap onto the rankings after their 20-19 victory over the Scorpions, entering at #15 in place of Stuttgart who have fallen out of the Top 20.
Poland’s Wroclaw Panthers moved up two spots to #12 after manhandling the Warsaw Eagles in the Polish semifinals 47-9. They have one of the best running backs in Europe in Marcus Sims.
The German losses move the Parma Panthers up to #13 as they prepare for the Italian Super Bowl July 4 against the #19 Milano Seamen.
The Allgau Comets slid down to #18 with their loss to Kiel while Switzerland’s Calanda Broncos are at #17.
Finally, the Triangle Razorbacks in Denmark have dominated the Danish league so far and enter the rankings at #20.
