AFI’s Europe Top 20: Allgäu’s Upset, Milano’s Title Lift Clubs in Rankings

We are into Week 7 of AFI’s Europe Top 20 where we present the weekly ranking of the Top 20 best American football teams in Europe in 2015. Let’s take a look at this week’s changes.

The biggest upset of the week triggered the biggest change as the Allgäu Comets jumped up to #9 after upsetting the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns 34-28 in German Football League action, bumping Schwäbisch Hall down to #7. The Unicorns had previously beaten the Comets handily back in May.

The Braunschweig New Yorker Lions are still at #1 spot on our list although they were idle. The Kiel Baltic Hurricanes stay at #2 with another impressive performance beating Dusseldorf 61-7.

Austria’s Swarco Raiders moved up to the #3 spot with their thrilling 48-46 win over the Prague Black Panthers in the Austrian semifinals. And although Sweden’s Carlstad Crusaders did not play they slid up one spot to #4.  The Vienna Vikings advanced to the Austrian championship game by beating the Danube Dragons 38-27 moving them up to #5 while France’s Saint Ouen l’Aumône Cougars who have finished their season, stay at #6.

Schwäbisch Hall have dropped to #7 while Dresden remains at #8. As mentioned Allgäu made a huge leap up to the #9 spot bumping Thonon from France down a notch, along with Sweden’s Royal Crowns, the London Warriors, the Wroclaw Panthers from Poland and Germany’s Saarland Hurricanes  who all were nudged down one spot each. The Panthers will play the Polish championship game this weekend and the outcome will no doubt affect their ranking next week.The Milano Seamen’s second straight Italian championship win has propelled them  up to #15.

The London Blitz are at #16 after whipping the South Wales Warriors 59-6 while Switzerland’s Calanda Broncos occupy #17 as they have advanced to the Swiss Bowl by beating the Winterthur Warriors 45-6.

The Prague Black Panthers slid down to #18 following their defeat at the hands of the Swarco Raiders although they did beat the Trnava Bulldogs to advance to the Czech league championship final.

Denmark’s Triangle Razorbacks moved up one spot to #19 while the Novi Sad Dukes returned to the Top 20 at #20 after winning the Serbian championship for the first time in their history by beating SBB Vukovi Belgrade 25-23.
