AFI’s All-Pandemic Team: Corner – Darius Lewis, Carlstad Crusaders
The AFI All-Pandemic Team selection committee pored over hours and hours of game film watching the defensive secondaries of all the teams and kept coming back to watch Darius Lewis.
Lewis, the anchor of the Carlstad Crusaders defensive backfield, could play anywhere in the secondary and was one of the keys to Carlstad’s 2020 Swedish championship. During the 2020 campaign, he recorded 24.5 tackles along with 4 tackles for loss and a pick. In the title game, he led the Crusaders with 5.5 tackles including 5 solos and a sack.
The 26 year old Lewis from Gaithersburg, Maryland was a two-year starter at Northern Arizona where he amassed 117 tackles. His resume includes stops in Germany (Straubing Spiders, Albershausen Crusaders), the Ukraine (Uzhgorod Lumberjacks), Turkey (Koc Rams) and Hungary (Budapest Wolves) and he has four championships in four years.
Carlstad Head Coach Billy BD Kennedy:
“Darius is a player that can make plays all over the field. He is also a superb tackler. He did a great job for us on defense and was also extremely effective on our special teams as a return man. I think he is an excellent player. He can play just about anywhere.”
