Don’t miss this special edition of AFI Live on race relations in American football in Europe.
With the world in an uproar over the death of George Floyd and demonstrations and protests in every major city in North America and Europe, discussions on race relations are more important than ever. AFI has invited current Berlin Rebels OC Cliff Madison and former Stockholm Mean Machines OC Fred Armstrong for a frank discussion on race both in football and in society in Europe. Also joining us will be Garren Holley, head coach of the Munich Cowboys in the German Football League.
So please join us for this episode of AFI Live on Facebook Sunday, June 7 at 4 pm Central European Time (10 am Eastern Daylight Time).
Our panel – John McKeon, Kaleb Leach, and Roger Kelly – will be on hand to ask questions and hopefully answer questions as we discuss the race situation in football in Europe and elsewhere.
Cliff Madison
With a playing and coaching career that has spanned over four decades in Germany and the United States, which includes three German Bowl championships with the Berlin Adler as a player, South Central Los Angeles native Cliff Madison is one of the most experienced American coaches in Europe. He has been a head coach, offensive coordinator or quarterbacks coach for the Adler, Neuruppin White Tigers, Hannover Musketeers, Berlin Rebels, Kiel Baltic Hurricanes, Dusseldorf Panther and Dresden Monarchs. So since first arriving in Germany in 1989, he has definitely made his mark on American football in Europe.
Fred Armstrong
Fred Armstrong from Scotch Plains, New Jersey, boasts a head coaching career spanning 22 years, He has served as the head coach of national teams in Sweden, Austria and the Czech Republic. In 1998, he was awarded the European Federation of American Football (EFAF) Ampro’s Coach of the Year with the Stuttgart Scorpions from Germany. Armstrong has also won multiple national titles in Sweden. He has coached with the New York Giants and New York Jets and coached collegiately at Lehigh University, Framingham State University and Waldorf University.
In other words, no two better candidates to discuss race issues in football not just in Europe but in North America as well.
