Sweden: Stockholm Mean Machines defeat Oslo Vikings to stay unbeaten

The Stockholm Mean Machines (2-0) extended their perfect start to the 2025 Swedish Superserien season with a 27–7 victory over the Oslo Vikings (0-1) at Zinkensdamms IP on April 12.
A slow first half gave way to a dominant second-half performance by the hosts, highlighted by quarterback Dawson Herl’s four-touchdown showcase.
First Half Stalemate
Oslo struck first with an early 7–0 lead when quarterback DeAndre Clayton capitalized on Stockholm’s sluggish run defense and found the end zone. The Mean Machines responded late in the second quarter when Herl connected with Anton Blomgren for a 7–7 equalizer with 5:09 remaining. A missed Stockholm field goal before halftime kept the game tied, though Oslo’s offense was largely contained by Lucas Ramn’s forced fumble and Alexander Green’s recovery, limiting the Vikings to two midfield ventures.
Herl’s Aerial Dominance
Stockholm’s passing game flourished despite a stagnant ground attack (57 total rushing yards). Herl completed 31 of 47 attempts for 299 yards, spreading touchdowns to four receivers: Blomgren, Matthew Retzlaff, Senay Kibrom Tadesse, and Robin Gabelin Miranda. His second-half efficiency—including a 14–7 lead after Retzlaff’s third-quarter score—proved decisive.
Defensive Standouts
The Mean Machines’ defense stifled Oslo after halftime. Leo Sundqvist’s critical pass breakup in the end zone halted a 7:21 Vikings drive in the third quarter. Linebacker Adam Vestin anchored the unit with nine tackles, while Carl Henriksson added seven. Ramn starred with two sacks, three tackles for loss, and two forced fumbles, disrupting Oslo’s rhythm.
Second Half Surge
Stockholm pulled away in the fourth quarter with Tadesse and Gabelin Miranda securing touchdown receptions. Oslo’s offense, held to 7 points, failed to counter as Stockholm’s defense allowed just 30 rushing yards and forced two turnovers.
Looking Ahead
The Mean Machines face a quick turnaround with a Thursday road matchup against AIK at Bergshamra IP. A strong start positions Stockholm as early title contenders, while Oslo seeks redemption in Week 3. Herl’s precision and Ramn’s defensive prowess will remain critical as the season progresses.
