LIVESTREAM Germany: Dresden Monarchs @ Berlin Rebels, June 25th, 18:00 CET, (6 pm, 12 Noon ET)
The Dresden Monarchs (1-3) visit the Berlin Rebels (0-2-1) in this GFL North matchup that has become critical for both teams.
The defending German Bowl champion Monarchs are aiming for a much-needed win to stop an uncharacteristic two-game slide. Across the field, a resilient Rebels team is looking for its first win of the season.
While the Rebels have yet to earn a win this season, that’s no reason to underestimate them. Berlin has tied one game and went toe to toe against the GFL North’s best teams yet have fallen just short of victories through four weeks of play.
Quarterback Donovan Isom leads an exciting Berlin offense onto the field. The Rebels passing attack has averaged 295 yards a game behind the second-year passer. Isom’s massive 6’5 250-pound frame makes him hard to bring down as he can extend plays and find receivers downfield. Isom will surely target receiver Robert Downs III along with speedy French running back Meril Zero.
Defensively, veterans Daniel Docal and Paul Morant lead a Rebels defense onto the field. The two experienced defense backs hope to get their unit playing better as the Rebels are currently giving up 48 points per game.
The Dresden Monarchs are a similar team in many ways as their offense has been explosive but they have struggled defensively at times. Hobbled by injuries, the defending champions have looked very different than in 2021 and will need to start tallying some wins if they want to make the post-season.
Linebackers Florian Zur Neiden and Andrew Mccleroy aim to contain a Rebels offense that has been lighting up defenses this season.
Offensively, newly signed quarterback Justin Agner suits up for his second game with the team. The former Stetson (NCAA D1 FCS) passer has shown the ability to hurt defenses with his legs as well as find receivers Darrell Stewart Jr (Michigan State NCAA D1) and Anthony Brooks. Running back Yazan Nassar is also a solid player to watch as he’s averaged 66 rushing yards a game.
For a much-needed win, expect longtime head coach Ulz Dauber to put his team in a position to earn a victory.
